It was a wonderful surprise to see a Great British band at this weekends event. The Royal British Legion Band & Corps of Drums, Romford added the pomp and ceremony associated with Britain to the St Petersburg Royal Rowing Regatta. It was little over a month ago when the Band Secretary received a telephone call from the British Ambassador in Moscow; asking if the band were available to perform at the International Royal Rowing Regatta in St Petersburg. This put in to motion an enormous challenge for the Band and its staff to prepare for what would turn out to be a very prestigious and memorable long weekend in Russia. So yesterday was the day! We’d been given barely two week’s notice, but it was time to jump in front of the television cameras. Having woken up at half four, after literally 3 hours sleep, it was up and ready to travel down to the band hall. Where we waited for the coach to arrive. Wootton Bassett
Friday 29th January 2010 saw the Band and Drums travel to Wootton Bassett to perform for the unveiling of the new flag pole and flag donated to the Town. The town was presented with this, in recognition of all they do for the servicemen and women and their families who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The Band arrived in Wootton Bassett around 1.15pm and was directed to the Civic Centre, which is where the Band would be based for the day.

Bethune, France On Friday evening, the Band met at their HQ and boarded the coach for the journey to Bethune, to take part in their Annual WW2 Liberation Commemorations, and for a change, the Band travelled to France via the Channel Tunnel.
After a shorter journey via the Shuttle they arrived in Bethune around 1.15am, but spent around 15 minutes trying to find the hotel, then ended up telephoning their host and telling them what colour their coach was, and in the end the he tracked them down! The rooms were sorted and everyone bedded down for the night.

Tiel Taptoe 2009, Tiel, Netherlands By L/Cpl John Rowland
Another weekend and yet another European show for the band and corps of drums. This year is turning out to be a much travelled one after shows in Aulnay-sous-Bois and Saint Quentin, both in France, during May. Now it was Holland’s turn to host the band over the weekend of the 5th – 7th June. The band set out from Romford at a slightly more respectable time of 22:30 to catch the ferry to Dover. A very smooth crossing was followed by a 4 hour journey to Tiel, of which the band spent most of the time sleeping, or trying to.
